class d visas w/o gainful occupation

Treehorn

When I go to the Belgian Embassy /Consulate  website in the US I get the following notification:

Application for temporary residency without gainful occupation (!!! CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE!!!)

I’m curious if that’s the case everywhere (outside of the EU of course) or if it’s limited to us poor unfortunate souls here in the US. (And hoping this lets up soon as we hope to move in 7 months...)

Yes, these kind of visa are restricted for now due to the covid.

I've highly doubt you'll be able to apply before early next year, but that's my own assumption.

Yeah I’m hoping it opens up by March (so we can leave by June). Fingers crossed. Knocking wood. Etc (and “glad” it’s not limited to us...I guess :)

This is what we see on “our” side.

Just for your understanding, the embassies are part of what we call the "foreign affairs" department in Belgium.

But about the access to the territory, the foreign affairs (embassies/consulates) that do represent Belgium in other countries, depends on the internal affairs (dofi - immigration is part of it).

Meaning: that the foreign affairs website/diplomacies depends on immigration department (internal affairs) on the visa/access topic.
And immigration is currently saying a big "no" to come in Belgium for "non-essential reason", like other European countries.

Good luck and be patient
PS: these kind of visa can take time....... Make sure you show as much money as possible.
Every country likes money after all... :joking:
