Hello everyone,
I applied for Belgian nationality one month ago (23/06/2025) and paid the fee of €150, which was the amount required at that time. However, one document was missing from my file, and I plan to submit it on 04/08/2025 due to appointment gap.
Now I see that the nationality application fee has increased to €1,000.
My question is:
Since I already submitted the application and paid €150 before the fee change, do I need to pay the additional amount when I submit the missing document, or will the original payment still be valid?
Thank you in advance for your help!

You should be OK because youre already in the system.
Here is the law program where discussed at 18.07.2025
There may be bad news those already paid before 29.07.25 €150 and not applied as 29.07.25.

I contacted Mymin Fin yesterday to explain my situation. I made the payment on July 9, but I have another appointment in August because my file was not initiated on that date. I was reassured that we are not required to pay the €850 fee, as it only applies to those who had not made a payment before July 28.
“Met dit bewijs dient u naar uw gemeente te gaan. Betaling uitgevoerd tot en met 28/07/2025 van 150 euro zijn in orde.
Vous devez présenter cette preuve de paiement à votre commune. Les paiements de 150 euros effectuès jusqu'au 28/07/2025 sont valables.”
@Smlg
That makes sens because you made your application. We may see in the future additional payment request form in Mijn fin for those paid €150 but not applied yet.
@maharaji1984
It’s What I have been told and It’s on the official website as well:
”The registration duty for a nationality application is now set at 1,000 euros On 29 july 2025, new legislation was published modifying the registration duty for nationality applications. The registration duty is 1,000 euros for payments made from 29 july onwards.”
@maharaji1984
my application was not started in the system.
its not about when your file was started but the payment.

You can read entire article from the link that I shared above.
Thata why I was thinking people who has not applied yet but paid €150 may face additional payments in the future.
@maharaji1984
i will send this to Myminfin and will update you.
@maharaji1984
I just called: they confirmed that if the payment have been made before July 28 no need to pay the remaining 850.

Hello Everyone, Today had an appointment to submit remaining documents and to sign auth, they accepted my old payment, i don't pay 850 extra.
Hello,
I applied for nationality today and signed the auth, and I was informed the approval may come around 5 December 2025. I have an L card currently.
I have booked travel to India from 16 December 2025 for one month. Incase i got approval in-between Dec 2025, Will my L card still be valid for re-entry, or will I need to wait for my Belgian passport or ID before leaving?
I want to make sure I can return to Belgium without any problem.
Thank you in advance for your guidance.
@gbsc0609
I havent heard yet nationality got approved before 4 months.
Even if this would happens surprisingly, municipality only remove certificate from your id and invite you for a Belgian ID.
This doesn't makes any problem to re-enter territory.
Good luck
@maharaji1984
Two of my friends received the answer in 3 months
@gbsc0609
You can always pay for next day delivery
@Smlg
Yes but withing 10 days how can i get ID, Passport and Visa for India? Also I don't want to pay extra fees for urgencies for all of these for two person, So, is it ok not to go to commune before Jan 26 even after the approval of nationality?

Thanks
I submitted my application for Belgian nationality today.
However, I was not given the acknowledgment of receipt, as the commune wants to first consult the public prosecutor’s office to verify whether I still need to pay the remaining €850.
I showed them the email from the FPS (FOD) clearly stating that if the payment was made before 28 July, I am not required to pay.
@Smlg
Which commune ? There are unclear procedures between the communes.
Some communes are following the advisory of finance, some not.
Example :
The Antwerp public prosecutor's office initially stated that the date of filing the declaration (and not the date of payment) should be considered the determining factor, but for reasons of uniformity, it changed its position and endorsed the FPS Finance's advice.
The Limburg public prosecutor's office, on the other hand, issued a notice to the municipalities on August 4 stating that every citizen submitting an application after July 29, 2025, must pay €1,000, even those who had already paid €150. This latter category will still have to supplement their registration fees to €1,000.
@maharaji1984
Vilvoorde.
But the acknowledgment of receipt should be given anyway. It’s illegal
That’s so exhausting
@Smlg
Unless if your application file is complete.
Probably to make sure about payment they didn't issue the receipt yet.
@maharaji1984
Yes it’s about the payment. The problem is the 4months count won’t start from today.. without the receipts they can take their time
@Smlg
I already share this link on this post previously (see link : /en/forum/europe/b … ml#6067725)
Apperantly they might have change the original article because of positive decision from the parket
If you read the quote there was unclearity.
As they change the article now its clear that those who paid €150 before 29.07.2025 no any additional payment need to pay.
Good news.
@maharaji1984
I sent e-mail to townhall, i hope they will answer me. I will keep you updated
Hello,
Update:
I have received the « Attest – Aanvraag tot verkrijging van de Belgische nationaliteit. »
