F Card or continue with A Card

Cityantwerp

Hi All,

it is 4 years that I use my A type ID Card and recently I applied for F type ID Card, recently I received this email from "Burgerlijke Stand" that they mention, A change of residence status can unintentionally lead to a short interruption in your legal residence. If a gap occurs, you will have to wait 5 years until you become eligible again for Belgian nationality.

Anybody have any similar experience?

My final intention is to apply for citizenship after 5 years.

When does your A card expire?

You should be able to request it be extended for another year so that you are covered while your F card is being processed.

I'm not an expert but this is what I plan

to do when I applynfor an L card.

hey did you manage to clarify this? i also have been 4 years with A card and applied for F card, but my commune said that all years in belgium count towards the nationality. but yes you would have to explain this unintentional interuption in the application. can you let me know how you resolved this?
