change F card to work ID

EVB1

Hi, I have non-EU nationality, and I currently have an F ID card (based on legal cohabitation). Do you know if I can exchange F id card to work ID card without any problems? Is it a long process? Will the change of cards influence the process of obtaining citizenship? (I can apply in 2 years)

My partner wants to work abroad for a period, and I want to give him such a possibility but to remain in Belgium.

Merci

How long have you had F card?

With F card you can work and there is no work permit required.

Partner moving abroad on assignment does not mean divorce so you might still fulfill condition for F card.

Better check with your municipality on your specific case.

Indeed, keep your F card as much as you can.

You just said that you'll be able to apply in 2 years, so it means that you have 3 years on F card. That's perfect => keep it.

I have a question regarding F Card,

This is my 4th year that I have my A card, considering my final aim that is the possibility to apply for citizenship , is it better to apply for F Card today (based on my marriage) and apply to citizenship next year (after arriving to 5th year) OR keep my A card till arriving to 5th year then apply for L Card then finally apply for citizenship?

Thank you for your response in advance

@Cityantwerp

  1. When does your A card expires?
  2. Are you married (family member of BE/EU citizen) and if yes does your partner has a stable job?

Cityantwerp

@edigj

1.My A- card expire next year March and I can apply for L or B Card next year September

2.Yes married with Eu citizen with stable Job

@Cityantwerp

In your case it is better to apply for F card now.

It takes up to 6 months but you can keep your A card as it is still valid and superior to Orange Card.

Your commune will not downgrade you to Orange Card.

Once F card is approved you can swap the A for F card.

Then once you have completed 5 years you can declare nationality provided you have fulfilled other criteria too(economic, social integration, language etc)

This way is much faster than waiting for B or L card approval next year.

Tanx a lot for quick response.

Why for applying to F Card Job stability of your European partner is a requirement? Mainly because I am full time working myself in belgium.

Edigj

@Cityantwerp

Law is made on that way. Since you are Non-EU citizen and wanting to exercise your rights as EU family member it is supposed that your EU partner to be able to support you financially in case you need to. This requirement his checked when approving the F card. Bus as you say it should be solid case for you.

One of my friend as not an EU citizen but spouse is and not working , in that case my friend get F card while working and spouse not.

Edigj

@maharaji1984

EU spouse is exercising her rights in another EU country. An EU citizen can exercise his/her rights by several ways:  working,  looking for Job , studying, being self sustainable. etc.

In case of Belgian citizens different rules apply as also stable revenue of at least 2000euro/month are required (July 2023)

@Edigj; Hi, it seems like I was in a similar situation in 2021, going from A to F, the commune issued me an orange card while they re-processed (first one was incomplete) my application. Thus resetting the counter of uninterrupted stay.

Commune says there is always an interruption going from A (temporary stay) to F (permanent stay).

Can you advise on what to do in my situation?

Edigj

@rahmanahmad

Commune is wrong. I went forward and applied and obtained the nationality even having resided in an orange card in between.

Commune does not decide on your application there are institutions on federal level who do. Commune will only handle the paperwork to them and update you on the outcome.

hi,

i have been in belgium since Sept 2019. I obtained student permit in April 2020 due to covid, and then obtained F card in June 23 due to legal cohabitation( Oct 22) we share adress since May 22.

Now my ex endend the relationship up and doesnt care about my future. He’s pushing me to leave the apartment, my name is on the lease, or he ens the legal cohabitation. Even if I leave he will end it anyway. I work and I have a Belgium diploma what should I do? I would like to keep F card so next year I can apply for citizenship..
