Does anyone live in Vieques? I hope to move there in the next few months and have tons of questions! Especially interested in picking the brains of those who have tried gardening there. Have you done raised beds? Has anyone tested their soil quality and checked for chemical residues, since the island was used as a military testing site for many years?

There is a Vieques Peeps page on Facebook where you might find some good advice.聽
I've been to the island a number of times and heard people talking about their toxic waste dump, which begs the question, "then why are you here?"聽 If it were that bad, they'd all leave.聽 Part of the island is closed off and uninhabited due to unexploded ordnance.聽

I have a friend who lives there and has a garden.聽 She has a mango tree and a lime.聽 She eats the fruit and has never had any qualms about it.

Definitely check out that page.聽 I think you will find some good help there.
