It's more difficult to find other climbers on the island especially based on the west coast;

Did you talk to them about a possible climber club in the area or somewhere else in the island?
How about the site where people advertise get togethers?
Another is craigslist and the classifieds.

If you are new at rock climbing, and an older person, i would suggest taking a couple of lessons first. It is not as easy as it looks. My first attempt ended up a rock diving experience.
