Where to live in Managua?

Mili2006

Hello all,

Will be moving to Managua to work, in June 2013 and am trying to get a head around the city. I have read some very diverse opinions about the capital. (Ranging from "the place to be" to a gang driven L. Amercian city with crime and robbery etc.). This has made me slightly concerned as I am a coming alone to the capital.

So will gladly search for some advice on the "safe" areas to live - close to the gym/supermarkets etc.

I speak not one word of spanish so will hope to learn as fast as possible so need an area that's "comfortable" and where I don't have to look around myself too much as I will already be distraught by the language.

Thanks to you all!

We have lived in Managua for 4 years and we love it here.  You did not mention your budget.  We used an excellent Realtor to find the house we are renting: Eduardo Jerez at [link moderated] email: info@nicaragua-homes.com.

Eduardo speaks perfect English and he knows what expats are looking for.

Best of luck with your move! We love living in Nicaragua and we hope you will feel the same.  Jack and Margaret
