I already know theft happens in DR.  I'm also assuming security is not as tight in DR.  Maybe I am assuming JFK has stronger security and more cameras.  But, it could have happened anywhere

YES, My wife indicated it took a long time for the suitcases to arrive at the carosel

I'm a gringo who's USA residence is in Colorado. I've put many things, many valuable things in my luggage and have flown to STI numerous times and have never had any issues. I mainly fly American with connections out of Miami.
I can't see how anyone would steal from her luggage at STI, those bags literally come off the plane right to the baggage carousel. If I had to guess I'd say it happened on her layover in JFK. - @taccj9903

For all you non believers, let me tell you a story about STI.  Many years ago, my wife's mother passed away in the US.  My wife had her mother in a casket shipped via air to DR.  Upon arrival, the casket and her mother was gone.  This is unbelievable, but true.  The National Police tracked down the casket and her mother and caught the thieves.

A general story about our house.  We bought the house and kept the Services, i.e. cleaning lady, grounds keeper, a maintenance guy.  We had a ribbon cutting party and then left went back to the US.  A couple of months later when we came back to DR, stuff was missing.  A lot of stuff. and the lock on the front gate was open.  Needless to say, all those people have been relieved of their jobs and all the locks have been changed.  They were getting paid to do nothing and steal from us.

So, thinking about all this, why do you think all properties have 6 foot concrete walls with broken glass on top???

I'm using (apple) air tags for a while. Easy to track your belongings.

Did she us a TSA approved luggage lock?  I always use those and never have had problems at STI.

No, but I now have 8 TSA approved locks and seal tape to wrap the suitcases with.
