Hello everyone,

As an expat planning finances, I鈥檝e realized that budgeting for life in a new country feels very similar to how we plan and manage project costs in construction. While researching the cost of living for expats, I found that just like in projects, accuracy in planning makes a huge difference in avoiding surprises later.

In construction, we always create a construction cost estimate before moving forward and I think the same principle applies to expat life. The better the estimate, the smoother the journey.

I'm curious... are these questions DR-specific, or are you asking in multiple forums?

Are you looking for something different with today's question than you were with yesterday's?

Are you asking for yourself (to help you plan your move to the DR, for example), or for another reason?

Have you read back through previous forum threads to see how people have answered similar questions in the past?

Have you checked other cost-of-living resources, such as Numbeo? Many of these are crowd-sourced and thus (at least in theory) based on the insights of people in country.

Regarding construction, that's not my area personally, but I get the impression from others' posts that for a construction project to thrive in the DR you need lots of local knowledge and local contacts. This is another topic you'll find a lot of posts on if you read back through the forum.
