YOU'RE STUCK AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD...WHO DO YOU CALL?

mcforte

I wondered about this when driving recently in Belize. The rental agency said to call them if in trouble. But what if you are not renting, and driving a vehicle you own? Is there a listing of reliable tow truck operators in the country? Does Belize have anything like the AAA?

It happened to me in Ladyville near the airport and about 5 miles from my house. It was late at night and I was driving along when suddenly I had a blowout.  Two Mexican men who were about 100 feet away and the only people in sight standing under the only light on that long deserted street.  I waved to them asking for help and believe me, I was LUCKY!! They came and helped me ...it was not an easy fix because the jack was broken. They didn't speak English, so I wasn't able to communicate, but LUCKY for me, I did have a couple of friends in town by February 2020, right before the lockdown for Covid.  THAT'S KEY - make friends!! They said they were on their way by bike, but right before they arrived a truck pulled up and eight guys jumped out! They immediately got down under the car to help!!! I thought they were going to jump me, but instead they helped me! When my friends arrived they told me how LUCKY I was!! AAA, lol, not sure, but I doubt it and the Police expect $$$$ to help you with anything.  TRUE STORY!! If you are lucky like me the U.S. Embassy will be open and available to you for suggestions.  That is honestly the ONLY real help you will get ...oh, and FRIENDS!!
