Hi Josh,
Here I'd like to share some of my thought:
The Salary as everyone knows, it depends on your position and occupation. You said it is an engineering firm but you did not mention about your occupation and position which they offer you.
Smal exp: In IT area: 3 to 5 years experience, senior position (non-manager) above 1000USD, Manager above 2000USD
Regarding visa, once company confirm the offer they will take care of the work visa for you. You should raise the concern to your company about accommodation and visa inquiry, I believe they will assist you in detail since they need to bring you onboard.
In case company doesn't support on accommodation, you can post an ad here about looking for a place to stay, indicate you need a room or a flat. It cost about 200 to 1000 USD depend on facility and location.
Hope it help,
Anyway welcome to my home city.
Cheers,
Ruby

Hi Josh, nice to see you here.
I am just curious, if the engineering firm offered you a job, don't they specify what sort of remuneration you are getting? If they did, you should be able to determine on whether to accept the offer.
I personally think, the standard of living in Cambodia is quite similar to Vietnam (anyone please correct me if I am wrong). Rather, I am more concern of what is the "perks" they are offering besides salary, e.g. apartments (e.g. any budget)? Are they providing any air tickets for you to fly back home? Allowances (excluding your fixed income)? Girl friend allowance (kidding )
Good luck......

Dont think so la. He wants to know the cost, so I just post it here. I've got nothing to sell. My a**????
Agree with henrylamcs. If you received an offer then you definitely know how much pay you get. If not, I personally think that you are on the negotiation phase only and wish to know more the living expenses in HCM for better deal
Living in HCM is more and more expensive, especially when the VND is now devaluated compared to other main foreign currencies (e.g. USD, SGD and JPY). And of course, it is more expensive than in Cambodia. I used to travel to Cambodia and felt quite relax to spend my money. Not the eagerness I experienced in HCM. Hehe
But if you receive your remuneration in foreign currencies other than VND then no worries, you can see how value for money your salary is.
Normally, when an expat assigned to work in a host country, he should deal with the employer to be covered for accomodation, transportation, work permit, visa, ect to help him initially settle down. You should negotiate to push all the above responsibilities to your employer (in case they are in need of your experience and qualification in that position).
Hope this helps and welcome you to VN. Dont worry too much, as long as you have ambition to work and earn money, then you can survive everywhere, even in the most expensive city in the world.
Good luck, Josh.
