You can but they are green on the outside, like limes but larger and like the oranges that are green outside.  You can distinguish a lemon from the other two by the color of the flesh.

Yeah, thing is, I bought one of those (6 in a pack actually). Not a lemon. More like a big lime.

How odd..?

As an avowed Lover of both Lemons and Limes,
(my fav. fruit) I have (never) had any problems
finding them both in & out of Ha Noi.

Street sellers in the Old Quarter?   Or Intemex
on Le Thai the West side of Hoan Kiem lake, Vinmart
on the East side, or the 'Green Market' tucked away
in little alley ( Yen Thai ) opposite Queen Bee 3
(Always fresh supply) with lots of F&Veg stores
around the same.  (heaps of)

..sorry, THIG, but the Lemons are: Yellow, Big,
                    (and scrumptious..!!!)                    :top:

In case you've never tried it, lemon AND lime juice mixed together is better than either separately. It lifts the flavour into an extra-terrestial dimension.

I'll have to check those places out, thanks. I'm living in Hoang Mai district and the old quarter is a long way for a lemon. I'll definitely look next time I am out that way.

Dammit!!   ..now the cat's outa the bag..!     Ahhh..  ..the ecstasy of the mix...

..just as well you didn't mention the Banana pancakes, Maple syrup, fresh Cream...
   ( s'cuse me, )  ..my kitchen is calling...      :D

@Zep, your kingdom for a lemon, but not a ride across town?
I've had a similar experience in Brazil. No lemons, nothing but limes, some of which they call lemons. For what I was told there was a plague that destroyed all lemon trees. I finally found them in a high end store, they called them " Persian lemons".
One way to get under a Brazilian's skin is just to say " pst.... that what you call Tahitian lemon is actually a Tahitian lime "

Bazza139

Hmnn...   ..don't want to start a racist rant, but,

..if you Go Ogle the Great Lime debate over what
Lime trees I chose to plant (Arabic for disbeliever)
deliberately selected both because I am (Epistemology)
(all knowledge can only be theory)  ..and for the taste:
SE Asian Lime leaves for Thai dishes,
(and the zest and juice for top-range taste...)

The 40 trees are now about 5 metres tall and produce
about a Tonne of fruit per year.  The leaves retail for
around A$40 per Kilo, and are (much) more profitable
than the fruit.   But all up, a very good money spinner.

Not even a 'True' Lime..?   As if I care, being a Kafir...

Sadly(?) Tahitian Limes are also known as Persian...
(commercially better for retail sales of juice; less seeds)

( Ex (has-been) spurt (drip under pressure) is me.)
..but I'm told my Banana pancakes are to die for...      :idontagree:

Personally, I prefer to mix the breeds...
Lemon/Lime juice is the cat's whiskers for me
Still, use Lemon alone on Fish and for some drinks...

We are (all) unique

I make Lemon Bars very often and my mom goes to "L's Place" for them. It is a very cool import store in Hoàn Kiếm, I see a lot of foreigners there.

p.s: They are yellow lemons

Thanks! I'll check it out. I looked up the website for L's Place. They don't have lemons listed as one of their fruits, but they have some other things I want so I'll check it out!

Lemons acquired! Thanks for the L's Place tip, MinhMeridian. The first day I went they were out and said to come back tomorrow. Bought some Johnsonville Brats and some Hot and Spicy Johnsonville sausage. Bought some other stuff I haven't been able to find anywhere else. The next day they did indeed have lemons.

Came home that day and made Potatoes with the Hot and Spicy Sausage and Sauerkraut with my own homemade Sauerkraut . Delicious!

I was on my motorbike and couldn't buy much, but I plan on going back again and again! :)
