Marriage question - 5 working days?

Petemccarthy123

Hi all,

I'm a UK citizen hoping to marry my Vietnamese party.

I've read lots of guides such as this one and I'm confused about the below part:

"Civil Marriage - Once the marriage certificate has been signed by the Head of the Provincial People’s Committee, the Department of Justice will arrange a civil marriage within five working days."

Does this mean we HAVE to get married within 5 working days of the certificate being signed? Can we not delay the ceremony for a while if we wish and choose our own date? It seems from this guide that we essentially have no opportunity to decide our own date - it all depends on how quickly the process is completed.

Thanks,
Pete

No you dont. You go pickup your certificate and organise the wedding reception whenever you want.

Thanks so much. How long is the certificate valid for?

The same as any other country's  certificate, till you divorce or die, whichever comes first.
