Buying Aussie dollars

Hi All, I have a money-related question. Seen similar things asked but not exactly this and always with unclear or contradictory replies, so am looking for more opinions.

I am paid in VND and am looking to buy Australian Dollars here, with my VND cash, to give to someone visiting from Australia.

Where am I likely to get the best rate, eg banks, gold shops?
What documentation do I need to buy Australian Dollars, eg my payslips?
Are there any additional charges I should be expecting?

Would really appreciate the benefit of someone else's experience here, thanks

You you go Pham Ngu Lao/De Tham/Bui Vien street, Q.1 it is easy without formalities. There so many foreign exchange shops where you can change your VND to AUS dollar or vise versa.

Hi

According to the foreign exchange control regulations in VN, the bank is only allowed to sell foreign currency to foreigner using his/her legal income in Vnd when such foreign currency is remitted offshore to your home country. Therefore, if you want to buy Aussie dollars for this purpose, you must provide supporting documents evidencing your legal source of income in vnd. Otherwise, you have to buy it on the black market at unfavourable exchange rate.
