uhm, maybe like caffeinated tea. some people add sugar, i don't.

Have you ever tried Vietnames tea. It's as popular as coffee in HCM. Maybe you will like it.

While the tea is nice, it is not the same at Mate. It doesn't have the same taste or the stimulants that Mate offers.
Now if you could give me a shot of caffeine with it then I might say yes it's a good substitute

Love yerba mate me, used to drink loads of it what gives similiar stimulating effects for me is adding a couple of large spoonfulls of raw cacao to some cafe sua da oh amazing lol

I used to drink mate religiously for 2 years and now just want to have the option of drinking it again. I like the taste, the stimulation, and it's super convenient. I make and drink coffee leisurely (20 minutes to prepare, 15 minutes to drink it) and I certainly don't have that much tinge to lounge around in the morning. Mate, on the other hand, takes  30 secs.

Ok, I wrote: I am Hanoian, so I am sure that maté is not sell in here. I also drank maté when I was in latin america, but now in Hanoi I can not. I swear
