Successful job interview in Vietnam

Julie

Hi,

passing a job interview in Vietnam can be a stressful moment, especially you are not familiar with the cultural and professional codes of the country.

How to successfully pass a job interview in Vietnam ?

What happens during the interview ?

What are the do's and don'ts during a job interview in Vietnam : what to say or not, what to wear, how to behave ?

Thank you in advance for sharing your experience with us !

Hi Julie,

I am assuming you're particularly speaking of a locally run company? if yes i really have no clue but if not below are some warning signs that we look for before we hire and i assume will be true to most companies local or not when hiring expats:

1.Do's :

(a)Be specific with what your remuneration requirement is when asked.

(b)Ask and seek clarity as to whether you will be covered under an expat medical scheme.

(c) Job description and reporting structure.

(d) Period of contract and whether the company will provide for return air tickets back home. Certain companies do so wont hurt to ask.

Don't:

(a) Get hung up on the detail, how much is the bonus, will the company pay a bonus if they make a loss? believe me we have a lot of people asking this. Bonus's are paid at the discretion of the company to reward performance and garner loyalty so key word is discretion.

(b)Imply or suggest you will not work after hrs, if you really need a job in this economy that will send the wrong message. Unless your employers turn out to be slave drivers they will expect some sort of flexibility but will be on an exceptional basis.

(c)Turn up late as people wrongly assume all locals are not punctual. This is not the case.

(d)Some questions might be probing and you might think they are too personal. For eg: whether you're married or not, you wont be asked this in the U.S as it can be grounds for discrimination but common for people to ask here. It's normal so be prepared to answer this.

Good luck!

Seems like a stitch up to me, if members want to ask questions they would. That's five minutes of my life i am not going to get back.

hi, i would like to share you some:
For the clothing: u should choose polite clothings, not so sexy.
Usually you can show how well you are at job, but also need to be more modest.
And we appreciate people who is loya to the company and not to mention much to the Salary at the start.
