It will affect anyone who ignores all of the many alerts and reminders from over the past year.

Anyone who avoids a trip to their bank to upgrade their biometric data (facial recognition) shouldn't be surprised when the government closes their account.

Thanks OB , it would seem there a few who are choosing to not respond, mostly farming families. The guy in the video has replied to me that it won't affect tourists as they can't open bank accounts.

Unfortunately I think some of the alerts have been confusing to account holders, in that they mention that there is going to be a limit on the transfer size for anyone who doesn't register their biometrics.

So I'm hearing some people say, I never make large transfers electronically so it doesn't apply to me.

But fortunately they are going to discover that they still need to visit the bank and update their accounts in order to have regular access.

It's true that tourists (or people on a 90-day tourist e-visa) aren't able to open what I would call a fully functional bank account in Vietnam, but there are what I would call QR code accounts that allow for the reception of wire transfers and then payment by QR code.

I even tested one of those accounts the other day and was able to send â‚«20,000 VNؤگ to an American expat member of this forum.

I wouldn't be surprised if those folks who have the QR code accounts started having to register their biometrics.

It will come home to some who don't register when hospital bill arrives unfortunately. I've signed up to the NAB and Wise so I think I'll be alright.

Unfortunately I have heard of many Viل»‡t kiل»پu that have had their bank accounts closed or the banks saying it will be closed if they dont personally fly back to keep it open. Some of them really arent able to leave the country they are in or its really difficult. I agree banks didnt always make it super clear. I was hearing from one of them the bank told them not to worry and that the account wouldnt be closed, just locked until they returned but it was eventually closed without warning. Thats what they said at least.
