What is Momo in Vietnam?

rogergarinmichaud

Hi guys !

Just received a text message from Viettel asking me if I wish to join Momo...

In Tibetan the word Momo is a dumpling as in "chogo Momo" which is similar to the "alu samosa" of India = potatoes dumpling.

So I am not sure what is this Vietnamese "Momo", apparently it helps one to pay for your internet, utilities and the like..

So does anyone on this forum knows anything about it and have you ever used it ?

Thanks for your help !

I asked my GF about Momo. Seems it's a legit offer from Viettel, but she always declines.

We pay direct to the utilities (electricity, internet). Momo offers its members a stipend for using their services, but the "reward" is so small it's a not very persuasive incentive to let yet another entity into one's financial loop.

If I understand it correctly, it is a digital wallet.

Momo is an application used for electronic payment. You can pay for almost everwithingآ  by scanning the QR-barcodes; you can also navigate in the application and look for food delivery, book a train ticket, cinema, theater, and much. You only need to link your bank account or credit card to your Momo account and it will do the debits for your payments.آ  آ There are many popular applications in Vietnam to do the same such as ZaloPay, Grab, VNPay, etc. .آ  Now, if you don't have a Vietnamese Bank Account and you don't like to have many ؤگأ´ng-paper in your pockets, "Momo" is your best choice. But if you already have a Vietnamese bank account, you can be happy enough with your Bank phone application only

The greatest advantage of using MoMo for payments (as opposed to simply using a banking app) is the special discounts available when paying through MoMo.

The discounts vary from one company to another, but some of the best deals are afforded to users of the GRAB app.
