...After booking a Grab, the driver asked me to walk to the parking lot, which was a bit inconvenient—especially considering that the airport charges customers for parking as well - @Contem talk
I don't understand how airport parking fees charged to GRAB drivers affect "convenience"...?
There is a difference between booking a "GRAB Car“ and a “GRAB Taxi“, with the taxis having more flexibility regarding what they charge you.
Are you saying that the driver collected the parking fee from you separately?
The pathway to the parking area isn’t very smooth, making it troublesome for passengers carrying multiple luggage.
Yes, that's definitely a consideration when deciding if you want to make the trek to the parking garage.
Since I'm intermittently partially handicapped (depending upon the pain level in my low back, hips and knees and feet) I usually arrange for a private driver I've known since 2019 to come and pick me up.
He parks his car in the parking structure then comes to meet me in the terminal. He carries all of my bags with him back to his car, making it very easy for me to walk along with him.
It's not the cheapest option but it's certainly the most convenient, especially when I have a friend or family member arriving at the airport.
My niece recently flew in from Thailand, the day before I was due to arrive in HCMC (SGN) from Đà Nẵng. She said in all of her international travels it was the safest and easiest arrival she'd ever experienced.
Anyone coming into the country for the first time who doesn't know a private driver can usually arrange one with their hotel or other lodging. Even when it's not free/complimentary, that's often the best option.
As long as a person has become reasonably informed regarding normal rates, they can negotiate the fee ahead of time. I've got a number of personal stories of having done that in a few different cities.
(NOTE: a person can become surprisingly well informed by asking AI to figure out the reasonable fare for a private driver)
It’s relatively easy to walk to the end of the terminal to find VinFast taxis, but their service isn’t as reliable as Grab, and the same goes for other major taxi providers.
The government has made it very clear that the future of transportation in Vietnam is going to be electric, as much and as quickly as possible (that should take this thread down an off-topic rabbit hole... 😉)
It wouldn't surprise me to see the Vinfast electric taxis being given priority in the queue over gas-powered cars. Also I'm guessing that we have some people reading through these threads who consider an electric car to be a high priority, perhaps more important than maximum savings...?
It might be worth mentioning here (for those who haven't used a taxi in Vietnam or a GRAB rideshare) that "reliability" refers mainly to being taken to your destination by the shortest and most affordable route, as well as being charged only the fair legal fare on a meter that hasn't been tampered with.
Those are two very valid concerns in all Vietnam cities. If I were taking a taxi I would definitely only choose Taxi Mai Linh or a Vinfast Electric.
