Hi I'm considering travelling across Vietnam. for over 9 months I have done this in the past. many years ago. Now I'm retired and have plenty of time on my hands. I'm looking for information regarding my mail that is sent to me by the pension department here in England. I can hire a post box here in England but it costs a lot of money just for two letters, I have been in touch with the international pension department. But they were not much use. I will not have a permanent address in Vietnam. I would notify the pension department. But if they can't contact me by post, they will think I have passed away.
I will give up my flat here, so will not have an adress in England .

My experience:

Choose one reputable hotel where you will stay on arrival and on departure.

When they recognize you as a regular customer they will be happy to receive mail on your behalf while you are traveling

Not sure how much time the OP jackieclarke35 (welcome to the forum) has to answer to their gov't pension agency, but if the regular mail from the UK is anything like it is for Canada to Vietnam, a 3 month window for delivery would not be surprising. Even the (expensive) mail forwarding service I had arranged with Canada Post prior to my departure was taking 3 months for a letter to arrive here.

I'm glad I have an actual human being friend receiving my mail in San Diego.

She creates PDF file scans of the rare pieces of mail that might require my attention.

The only postal items I've ever received in Vietnam have been express mail through the United States Postal Service (USPS) or one of the courrier services (FEDEX and DHL so far).

Transit time has never been longer than a week.

Basically the OP has two totally different problems:

How to get his mail forwarded and also, how to get his mail received.

I was sharing the best way I know for an itinerant person to arrange to have their mail received.

It's up to him how efficiently he wants his mail forwarded, and whether or not he is willing to pay the price necessary to receive the quicker service.
