Paramedic Role in Vietnam

Ekimosubu

I’m a serving paramedic in the London Ambulance Service and was wondering if this skill could be transferred to Vietnam, in particular Hanoi. Does anyone know of any healthcare providers that would employee me in a similar role or if my skills could be adapted to fill another role.

I would think language skills would be a barrier.

Definitely not.

Don't know about U.K but for the U.S., a paramedic makes between 25-35 USD/hour and a paramedic in VN average monthly pay is about 8 millions VND.  There is really no shortage of Vietnamese people for that kind of job.  I don't think any medical company will be looking to hire a paramedic from another country to fill the spot.

I would potentially be coming over as a spouse to someone who has a job. I would need an  intensive 6 month language course most definitely.

I did wonder as much, thought it might be a sort after job. Although according to academic articles I’ve read the only ambulances that operate are at a cost of $168 per call out and are more ICU transfers. This cost seems a little steep for most Vietnamese I would imagine. Articles are also saying there is a need for more emergency ambulances stating there were only 10 emergency ambulances  in Hanoi (seems low I know).

My thoughts are with an intensive language course (6+ months)  I might be able to work in some form in the prehospital setting. Going to try and explore all avenues both private and state funded.

Just out of curiosity, where have you got your information from? Do you work in healthcare/ pre hospital emergency setting?

kind regards.

Though you might not have liked member OceanBeach92107 's reply to your initial post, they are in fact quite right.

To qualify for a Vietnam work permit (a prerequisite to the issuance of a work visa), a foreigner must be shown by the employer to hold a skill which is essential to the employer's operation. Also, the employer must persuade the gov't in their application that there are no Vietnamese citizens who would qualify for the position. As mentioned by member yng68bld, this would not be the case for a foreigner applying for the position of paramedic, as this role can be filled by a local citizen. An employer's application for a work permit is mandatory, whether the employer be a private enterprise or a government department.

Note: It is the employer who applies for the work permit, not the foreigner. When/if the employer's application to hire a foreigner is accepted, only then would the foreigner qualify for a work visa.
