Advice on making friends and connections prior to moving to VN?

Stillwater71

Hello everyone! Just a quick thing about me. I am a 52 yr old single male and will be moving to Vietnam in late July 2025. I plan to teach in an International School as I will be a retired teacher/school counselor with experience. I don't know which city I will end up, but I wouldn't doubt it will initially be HCMC.

Having a chance to make friendships can be challenging at my older age ( it was so easy when I was a kid/teen), but I am a easy going and fun person to be around. So any suggestions or opportunities that exist in the VN حوإ¼½م½م Community to help not only making long-term friends but also my early transition to VN.

Thank you in advance!

Hello. Welcome to Vietnam.

Please don't worry about making friendships in Vietnam.

We are friendly, no matter how old you are, where you are from.

HCMC is a big crowded city with many International schools, good hospitals, entertainment, food courts, restaurants... But you can consider Da Lat City. It's a highland tourist city with cool weather, fresh air, pine forest, beautiful flowers... You can join "حوإ¼½م½مs in Dalat" Group on Facebook to get more informations and make friend with expats who live in Dalat.

I hope you will get a smooth transition.

We can be friends.

Have a nice day.

Hi there,

We have moved from Australia to VN and have been living in HCM City for the last three months,we are also in our 50s and just retired. We find the people are friendly we have met people from all walks of life and different nationalities.

I think if you join a social club or sport club you will meet more people, I know it's abit hard in VN if you dont know where to start. If you need any help please reach out.
