I guess "get togethers" for expats aren't on any expats bucket list.

Welcome to the forum.

There may be some organized meet-ups for expats, especially women's groups, that are posted on social media. You'd have to check/do a search.

However, if you're in Pattaya, you'll be constantly running into other foreigners in your condo, at the pool, at the supermarket, at the beach, in restaurants, at the mall, on the "baht bus", etc. There's also a hash house harriers group.

Hi there!

We have a group of tech people, age skewing younger and rowdier than the regulars here.  We meet once a month at Wine Connection, for dinner and chit chat.  The planets aligned for us to be in the US or Europe so we don't have plans to meet again until November.  We've been very casual about it.  "Everyone free three nights from now?"  "Yeah!"  "Let's meet then."

Past two gatherings:

  • Meet and greet - we wanted to see how we all got along; exchanged tips on where to find stuff (e.g. specialty foods, household appliances that don't suck, Office Mate vs TUKCON for office equipment, and so on, advised the noobz on buying a True SIM card + monthly vs other alternatives and how to get the cheapest, and so on).
  • Beach clean up volunteering - we plan a day of cleaning in late November, we believe we need a permit to ensure that nobody thinks we are "usurping a Thai person's job."

Wine Connection is a fun place, the food is good, decent wine selection if you're into that.  I took my wife and kid there for dinner before flying back, they loved it.  Every time I've been there made new friends.  Favored by French and Belgian expats, but that's anectodal.  The expats I met there include early retirees and remote workers.  Another one is the general manager for one of the largest resorts in Pattaya, lives there year-around since 2017, mid-30s/early-40s guy.  Professional crowd in general.

I'll post here when we are back and have a date.

Cheers!
