How long will my work pass (EP, S-Pass, WP) application take

sgtechguy81

My Employment Pass (EP) application was submitted on October 22nd. All educational verifications were completed prior to submission.

Currently, the application status remains pending.  The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) contacted my employer a week ago to inform them that processing may take up to three months, without providing a specific reason for the delay.

Consequently, my employer has adjusted the tentative joining date and advised me to wait.

I'm perplexed by this extended processing time, especially since some applications are approved within 10 days.  My educational qualifications were pre-verified, and I scored 40 points on the COMPASS evaluation, leading me to expect a quicker decision.

beppi

@sgtechguy81 Sorry to say, but MoM is not obliged to follow your expectations of a faste turnaround (nor any other external factor we know of). They simply take as long as they see fit, and you can only wait patienly - or cancel/withdraw the application.

@beppi

Hello Beppi, do you know if the employer makes an appeal to an application, will the status change from Invalid to Pending? Or it will remain Invalid before the appeal is approved.

Nav M

My EP application was rejected two weeks back. Till a few days ago, the MoM portal showed the EP Application as "invalid" and now it says no record found. My employer is coordinating with the MOM to file an appeal. Would anyone know why the status page is not visible anymore?

beppi

@gummybear21 During appeal processing, it used to remain in "invalid" previously, but after a system update showed "pending" again. Not sure about the current status. Ask your employer!

beppi

@Nav M "No record found" is definitely incorrect. If your employer can also not see it any more, they should contact MoM to inquire about this!

Nav M

@beppi - many thanks. Turns out the MoM status check page was down and was not showing the correct status. It is working now.

aimocomia

application for Epass is approved.

Application date : Nov 14

Approved date : Nov 27

seems approved 10 working days from date of submission

@aimocomia

Hi, how did you get the approval update? Did you get notification sent to your email by MOM? or did you regularly check the EP status on MOM website?

aimocomia

@aricbdf

I regularly check the ep site, I sometimes ask the hr if there is an email received from MOM as well.

ramk495

Hi,

My E pass got rejected and my hr has got the details of certifications I have done related to my job and courses in my UG and reappealed.

Ep applied on nov 5

Reject on nov 15

Reappealed on nov 20

Changed to pending on nov 21since then it is still in pending.

Any experienced ones think there is a chance for approval? I was taken aback when the reason hr stated that mom need clarifications on ug course modules related to my job. I am from india and most of us get into it through engineering degree and work in different field's of it.and I personally know ppl who have been working in sg in it field with their degree in different field.so I don't know am just plain unlucky or what.I have 8 years of experience in the job I have been selected in sg.

avinashjha

@ramk495 was the education details you mentioned in the EP application form verified before u applied ?

ramk495

@avinashjha

Yes, it was even verified by employer from their side itself.once verifier, then only my employer proceeded to apply for EP.

avinashjha

@ramk495 okay. Then you can only wait. Sometimes MOM officer looking at the application does make extra checks. All the best to you. Hope for soon approval.

Nav M

@ramk495 - sometimes the EP application is rejected if a minor detail is incorrect or not mentioned properly even if educational verification is complete. Hopefully your employer can put forward a strong appeal and address the MoM's issue. My appeal was approved and I got my IPA in 10 days (from appeal).

EP applied - 14 October

EP Application Rejected - 15 November

Appealed - 4 December

IPA issued - 16 December

@Nav M

Is it your first EP ?

How much work experience do you hold?

gummybear21

Hello,

My EP application was recently rejected by MOM, with the reason being that my degree in Information Engineering is classified as more aligned with engineering rather than the requirements for IT roles listed under the Shortage Occupation List (SOL). However, my transcript shows that I’ve taken numerous Computer Science-related modules, such as programming, software engineering, and data structures and I did my previous internships with the software engineering roles also. My company has suggested reaching out to my faculty dean to request a recommendation letter as additional support for the reapplication. Do you think a recommendation letter from the school, especially since I’m a Tuition Grant recipient from SG local government university, would help strengthen my case with MOM?

avinashjha

@gummybear21 are you not clearing minimum 40 score on COMPASS without applying under Skills shortage occupation list?

gummybear21

@avinashjha My SAT points scored 50 (including the 20 points from SOL) but I’m not sure why the MOM has the concerns regarding the Information Engineering degree afterwards, even though in my 4 years of university courses, majority of my modules are related to the IT.

avinashjha

@gummybear21

Extra scrutiny and justification coz u applied under SOL. Hope for the best. May u have a wonderful start to 2025 with approval :)

Has anyone recently on Jan applied for EP renewal in SOL?.

My EP applied on 10 jan. Today is 8th business day still pending

sgtechguy81

@sgtechguy81

My EP is approved today after a long wait of 3 months.

edward living strowmann

@sgtechguy81

Congratulations 🎉 🥳

Happy for you. Have a good life ahead.

Recently MOM asked for additional documents such as CV and other employer docs. How many days it may take from the date of submitting additional documents?

beppi

@XDas My starting post of this thread is, although old, still largely valid.

Where in that process did they ask for the additional documents? That can give you a rough idea how long more you might have to wait - but there are always cases outside of that range too (both shorter or longer). In the end, there is nothing you can do but wait!

edward living strowmann

@XDas

3 to 6 weeks after submitting the document.

Could be shorter based on your and employer's profile.

XDas

@beppi

Hi thanks for ur input. They asked me for those docs on 7th Business day(from the date of first submission) and already submit those additional docs on 9th business day. Currently I am on my 10th business day.

beppi

@XDas There is no point in counting the days.

If they asked for the additional documents after such a short time, it was most likely their first check fo completeness. That means you start from Zero after submission. Thus expect 4 - 8 weeks from now (this is just a rough guideline, as some cases differ from this range and can be shorter or longer!).

TeeManXxg

Hello expats, has anyone faced a situation where the employer keeps telling the EP approval will take 2 months minimum?

EP was applied on 26th May, and it’s still showing as “Pendingâ€. Currently it’s 11th business day.

When asked about the timeline, employer confirmed it would take minimum 2 months. But from the forums and MOM website I can see they would give an update sooner than 2 months.

Has anyone faced this same situation?

I’m currently working in Singapore with EP and already went through COMPASS once, including education verification.

beppi

@TeeManXxg It is of course possible that this employer has problems with MoM (or MoM with the employer) and that causes all their application to face higher scrutiny. But of course we here cannot know that. Why don't you ask the employer?

TeeManXxg

@beppi

I already asked the employer, and it’s the employer who told me about the 2 months timeline. So, I also think what you told could be the case. But anyways, there’s no way to know, only option is just to wait.

Irishcristobal

@TeeManXxg Hi, im facing same issue. I was applied last April 23 and on MOM page my application still showing pending. As per the employer theyre still working with the MOM.

TeeManXxg

@Irishcristobal Hi, did you get any update from MOM since April 23? My application is pending without any updates. Now it’s pending for more than 3 weeks.

rambo123

Anyone knows recently how long for EP renewal to get approved? As my first time EP approved very quickly within a week, now it's much longer.

30th May - EP renewal application submitted (education check done and submitted also)

11th Jun - MOM update that they need more time (no extra docs required)

Pending until today?

Irishcristobal

@TeeManXxg

Hi, i got an email from MOM last May 15 saying that it will take 3-4 months to review my application, my employer still doesn’t have an update

beppi

@rambo123 EP renewals are usually faster (meaning 1 - 6 weeks instead or 2 - 8 weeks for new applications). There is a number of factors that can influence the time needed, most of them outside of your control. The notification from MoM, that they need more time, is an indication that one of these factors applies here.

Your employer could contact MoM to find out what the status is or if anything could be done to accelerate things.

Other than that, the only thing you can do is wait.

TeeManXxg

Does anybody know how long MOM would take on average to finalize if they have requested additional documents from the company and also your CV?

My case: EP was pending for 3 weeks, then MOM requested for additional documents, and the company submitted the documents today.

Based on other posters in this thread, another 2 to 3 weeks for the next update?

beppi

@TeeManXxg There is no clear and generally correct answer to your query.

On one hand, it depends on which checks and process steps MoM has already performed when they sent the request for additional documents. (Which I guess you don't know - and neither do we.)

But in most cases of additional documents requested, it shows errors the employer did in submitting the original application. A CV for example is standard part of every application - they must have forgotten it! (And that, of course slows down the process,)

On the other hand, it depends on how complex the process is altogether in your case. This might depend on your background or education, but also the job and the employer.

And the third influence is spot-checks and additional verifications, which MoM does perform on some randomly selected applications.

If the employer is in a hurry to get you on board, they can contact MoM to ask for the detailed status and if there are ways to speed it up. But short of that, the only thing you can do is wait. EP processing can tale anywhere between a few days and several months - and nobody can predict where you will land!

rambo123

30th May - EP renewal application submitted (education check done and submitted also)

Pending until today? - @rambo123

For those interested, my EP renewal approved today. 19 days, nearly 3 working weeks since submission date.

rambo123

Anyone knows if another employer can apply new EP while I’m having an existing IPA for my EP renewal?

Or need to wait until my renewed EP get issued?
