How do you feel about your safety in Dumaquete?

Jackson4

I just saw the news about the governor assassinated in Negros Oriental. Looking at the map, it is not very far from Duma. Besides, if the governor got killed, how would anyone feel about their own safety. How do you feel about your safety in Dumaguete.

He's not the only one. It's 'open season' at the moment in Phil's with recent local government elections. This is nothing new.

Dumaguete is safe city. You are more likely to be the target of petit cons as is the case anywhere in the country.

From what I've read its the foreign 'contingent' that you need to be most aware of.

Very sad situation, especially for the innocents. There has been quite a bit of political violence in the Philippines lately, and Negros has had it's fair share over the years, but it usually doesn't spill over to foreigners, sad as it may be. Dumaguete seems quite safe, some areas up in the mountains not so much. One has to remember there is a lot of desperation and easy money can be tempting. Always best to follow the laws, keep a low profile and stay out of trouble - this applies to all developing countries.
