If it is not a fake job where they ask you to pay for hotel or work permit or fees of any kind then the salary is ok. Tax is 20/26%.

Hi Gravitas,

Can you please tell me when the tax is 20/26%?

Kind regards,
Chenara

Hi Gravitas,

They are not asking to pay any kind of fees to me.

If you only arrive in Malaysia in July 2014 (less than 182 days left in the year) you pay a flat rate of 26% and there is no refund. If you arrive and work more than 182 days per calendar year, you pay about 20% and can claim any overpayment when you submit your tax assessment in Feb/Apr the following year. Tax should be deducted at source by your employer and you are paid a net salary.

Is tax assessment submittal mandatory?

I am told that if one agrees with the monthly deduction made by the employer and there is no overpayment to be refunded then it is not necessary to submit tax assessment.

It depends on what kind of life you are looking for. Some people would be able to save money and satisfy with RM 5000 while some even not enough with RM 10,000. Need to plan the financial wisely with RM 7,500.

Rm 7,500 is a good salary for some of the employees with 6-7 years of experience in Malaysia. Furthermore, the expenses is also depends where is your working location. If you are in KL, better plan your money wisely! Living expenses in Malaysia is hiking up exponentially in recent years. Local with 3-4 years of working experience not even feel satisfy with RM 5,000!
