Buying Ground Coffee in KL?

vdmarel

Hi all!

Since a week or two I am living in KL. I live near the Tesco at the curve so I do all my shopping there. One thing I however can't find (and REALLY need!) is coffee! Good old coffee ... There is a huge aisle with sachets or white coffee or "just add water" coffee. But there are only two small bags of ground coffee which are crazy expensive.

Is there any place where I can get normal ground coffee for normal prices? Tesco asks RM10 for 200 grams or so. I'm used to Holland or Canada which is like RM10 for 1kg.

And don't say Starbucks please ... :)

sorry to disappoint you but RM10 for 200grams is par for the course as far as coffee in Malaysia goes.  If you want something cheaper give the local coffee a try - it is a robusta bean that is fried in butter.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried that once...and...never again. It was pitch black and looked as thick as oil.

I guess I have to settle with no choice and high prices then. Sounds weird though, Malaysia being so close to coffee producing areas.

Definitely not for the faint hearted...  Good point about being near to the source.  Never really thought about that.  Do let me know if you find a away to get decent supplies directly from source at a decent price.

If you are in Damansara, your best bet is probably one of the coffee chains, there at The Curve.

Well, at the coffee chains they sell the same coffee but just quadruple the price.

Starbucks coffee sells at 48 RM for 200 grams. Ridiculous.

I have settled for the regular Tesco coffee. Might look into getting a Dolce Gusto. Had a Nespresso back home and really enjoyed that.

You might try popping over to Bangsar and the new Gourmet store on the ground floor of the Bangsar Shopping Center on Jalan Maarof.

Probably the best bet, but it's not gonna be cheap.

It's Asia...not too many people drink freshly made coffee.
