From what I know the Lao govt will now recognize overseas drivers licence.   

If you are coming to live/work in Laos then it may be better for you to get a Lao licence. An online check will give you up to to date info and perhaps other members of the Lao forum will have information.

Hi, I am Belgian Íæż½ã½ã for 8 years in Laos.
My company is using my Belgian driving licence to recieve a temporally Lao driving License (1Year).
But ofcourse if you have a International driving licence than you don't need.
If you go to visit Thailand anyway you need international driving licence in case of accident.

No need for test, only picture and original license, take a few days

Be careful as there is no such thing as an "international driving licence". It is a permit which is a translation of your own country's licence.
