No you can't as I believe 3 is the max and immigration will ask you far too many questions as to why you keep doing this and then refuse you entry. Better you apply for a 60 day and them extend that.

By paying the US$35 VOA for the extendable (by another 30 days) visa or by applying for the 60 day visa in your own country you could already stay longer than 30 days by only paying US$35 which would be a lot cheaper than a flight for a visa run. Immigration will be suspicious that you might be working illegally in Indonesia. Bear in mind that you should always have a ticket showing an onward departure out of Indonesia and that overstaying will result in a Rp300,000 per day fine ( expected to increase) and possible blacklisting.

They is no legality that you cannot do this, however like mentioned you will get the usual questions, I did this up until late lat year approx every 2 - 3 weeks or so for just under 12 months other expats I know personally have been doing this for many years
Some nationalities are frowned upon more than others as some are more likely to be working illegally than others
Rule of thumb is if you obide by the law you wont have any issues, the main one is if they 鈥渟uspect鈥� your doing something illegal is good enough reason to refuse you re entry
I鈥檝e witnessed issues with the 60 day business Visa and quite a few people breaking the law with these in the past

If you can show them that you are traveling such as hotel bookings in various places or proof that you will be trekking or island hopping etc, it would probably be helpful.

A Japanese guy had been time and again - he was lucky to get in that time but I'll bet immigration went to his old factory the following week.

Okay thanks everyone, I am going for vacation purposes so I will apply for 60 days. I just wish there was a way I could stay a year, is that possible?

A 60 day sosbud can be extended twice without leaving the country so there goes 6 months without issue.
Plan your trips so you're near an airport at the right time, but have a chat with your sponsor about a new sosbud before you leave.
As long as you're all over Indonesia, the chances are no one will question you but, If you stay in one place all the time, that could be a problem, more so if it's Bali as the local authorities watch foreigners and any suspicion you're working with bring immigration visiting.
Hotel stays for a year aren't going to be cheap, even in Rp300,000 places that's going to add up.
If you rent a house, you'll have to report to the local village head and others. That's all down to your budget.

I鈥檝e this minute just come back from dropping the Mrs of at the ferry terminal for Singapore and asked her to ask with immigration about Visa runs etc, they is no limit to entering numerous times to Indonesia using VOA

Ah but Singapore immigration have in the past challenged people as to why they are continuously returning and leaving on the same day if that's what the voa runner is doing.

Indonesian immigration have informed the Mrs they is no limit with VOA

What about exchanging money, I found some places in bali but can I usa card to change my USD into Rupiah cash?

Look into a top up Visa or MasterCard not sure if the USA have them I鈥檝e used Revolut it鈥檚 free of any charges and you get the live XE rate and has a great APP
The US$ is strong against the IDR currently so I鈥檝e been using US$ account
Alternatively bring US$ with you to exchange
Thursday or Friday I was getting slightly over 14,500 IDR for $1 and 19,100IDR for 1GBP

If you can live with the charges, any ATM.
Always use a Rp100,000 machine as the single withdrawal limit is usually greater so the transaction charges are smaller.
