A cheerful introduction

andyha

Hello everyone, I'm very happy to come across Íæż½ã½ã when looking for support in a new venture.

I just filled out my registration details, so I'll copy&paste what I wrote to save you clicking:

I've been in education all my life. In 2002 I relocated from Britain, initially to Nepal where I established a school. Then I founded a couple of schools in Bihar and West Bengal [North India] before moving for a few months to rural Thailand and then, five years ago to Cambodia. I was motivated by the challenge, but now I'm tired; the education system [in Cambodia] is too inherently corrupt. At this stage in my life I want to settle down in one place and enjoy my work until I retire. I want to move back to South Asia, and Bangalore seems to be the place with the best quality of life and job prospects.

Thank you,

Andy

Hi Andy, welcome to Íæż½ã½ã!
I'll move your topic to Bangalore's forum to enable you to interact with fellow forumers there :)
You might want - for a starter - to browse the Guide of expatriate life in India and more particularly the page on Work visas in India.
As for finding a job, you might want to post a free ad in Bangalore's Classifieds -> teaching jobs.
Wishing you good luck in your new venture

Thank you Arlette. I've been lurking in the Bangalore section and will post soon!

Okay, I'm ready to give more away.

I've been away from the Western comfort-zone so long (a decade), I can hardly remember many of the things many expats crave.

Thing is, I'm getting old now. I'm 49, single and having sunk all my savings into establishing schools and business ventures, I'm out of funds so will need to live on my earnings.

For the last 5 years I've been an academic professor at the most prestigious English-medium university in Cambodia, whilst also teaching English, editing and proof-reading - jobs such as banks' annual reports, NGO and government reports.

In England for some 15 years I taught at high school and college level, and wrote syllabuses and exams for Cambridge University Exam Board (under it's various guises) for GCSE and A level.

My problem in Cambodia is that I believe in standards, quality and principles, and these all fly in the face of the educational culture here. Previously I'd encountered a lot of corruption in education in Northern India, but I realise that the culture in Bangalore - at least within reputable institutions and companies is world-renown.

I'm flexible - I'd be just as happy to teach clear English pronunciation (which I've done a lot of) to call-centre staff as to get an academic post. I don't mind as long as it's a well-run reputable company or institution and pays enough to live reasonably in Bangalore (and arrange my paperwork). Actually I'm not even fixed on Bangalore - anywhere not too remote with a healthy environment would be considered, so long as I can settle down and put down roots for the rest of my years.

So if anyone could suggest who I might contact to send my CV, I'd be deeply grateful.

Thanks for reading,

Andy
