@Teatowel hi. Have you visited before? If you are over 55 I don’t believe they will ask for any proof at all. My friend Jason is 56 and he just got his retirement visa extension with no questions asked. As far as money goes I think you will be fine. I make about the same and live a pretty good life in Siem Reap. Maybe consider visiting a few places first. I’d see Phnom Penh, Kampot and Siem Reap. Prices in Siem Reap for an apartment are about $250 a month. You can find cheaper if you want. I’ve seen prices in Phnom Penh a bit more and Kampot maybe cheaper or the same.

I have lived here twice now. Mostly used the retirement visa before to return to cambodia after wandering Asia. Very nice for that too.

I really like daily life in Siem Reap. Fits how I want to live right now.

Mid 50's seems to be 55.

That means you can have a visa extension based on retirement without any proof.

Just passport and money is all that is needed for extensions, one year at a time.

Your income is easily enough to live a good life here.

@JoeKhmer last time I used kim in Phnom Penh for the visa extension. I will ask a few others here. They all send the passport to Phnom Penh. My Khmer friend kim here does visa extensions. She is the manager of the long stay place I’m in now. I remember a few others too. I’ll ask around.

the beer sounds good. Hope to see you in March. Going to Vietnam in next few weeks and then back to live here. Then will go to Kampot.

@mpmilestogo  when you say they send the passport you have to hand it over? Is it safe to do that? What if it gets lost or something?

@Teatowel the passport has to have a visa extension added. It takes up a full passport page. I’ve done this numerous times and never had an issue. The last time in Phnom Penh kim returned the passport with the ER visa extension added in 3 days. If you use agent in Siem reap they send to Phnom Penh. You still have to give passport and money. I paid $290 last time I think and I gave kim $20 tip.

I guess there is way to do at immigrations office. I would not do it. Easiest way is with agent. Many people here have used kim in Phnom Penh. Never a problem. Just be sure you get the ordinary visa when you arrive.

No problem Teatowel     I just started living here 3 months ago as a retiree from the US. The ORDINARY (not tourist) entry visa is $35 and the 1 year multiple entry extension is is $300 , not neccissary to show anything but a passport and the visa fee.. I'm renting a small very modern apt in Siem Reap for $130. I spend  about $600 a month for food and rent including everything. ( I don't drink or smoke.) Very peaceful and people are friendly and welcoming. City is very walkable and pleasant.   Leon
