American Muslim man marrying in Tunisia

Joe Arm

I have looked at the US Embassy site and it says I need

1: Passport

2: Birth Certificate

3: Affidavit of eligibility to marry

4: Prenuptial marriage Certificate

to marry a Tunisian but I get on reddit or here and hear other things smh....

Do my birth certificate need to be within 20 days from the date of marriage? If I do, should i get my birth certificate before I get on the flight there and how to schedule date of marriage before the expiration of Birth Certificate?

Do I need to get my birth certificate translated into French or Arabic? If I do, Should it be notarized by that person or at the embassy? Should the translation be apostille stamped?

Do I need extras copies of passport and birth certificate?

What's a place or doctor office that has the fastest turn around on prenuptial marriage Certificate or which one just signing it without the test for the money?

Btw I already have notarial appointment with embassy and I only can spend two weeks there. Ive met her family before and they're pretty easy going and her dad approved of us getting married.

Hello joe,

Apparently, there's a form that you obtain from City Hall (Baladia) that you take to any medical doctor for a health exam. It sounds like some blood testing will be required. Have your fiance or her family do the questioning as to what will be needed before you leave the US. Otherwise, you will find yourself playing a game that you are not familiar with, all on your own.

As to the birth certificate, you normally get a notarized copy from your city or county of birth; you then take it or send it to the embassy (including a prepaid return envelope) for certification. Ask if you can do the translation in Tunisia.

Remember that the laws' interpretations are dependent on who's in charge that you are talking to at the moment.

Best of luck!

The link was not allowed in the above reply!

From the link:

"Prenuptial Marriage Certificate – This is a medical certificate establishing eligibility to contract marriage. This certificate must have a maximum validity of two months at the time of marriage. Each party must be free of any contagious diseases (primarily tuberculosis and syphilis), alcoholism and mental illness. The City Hall in Tunis will supply a printed form for this certificate upon request. All doctors practicing in Tunisia are authorized to perform these medical examinations."

" You get the form from the baladiya in whatever municipality you are planning to get married in and take it to a doctor or hospital there to have the medical assessment performed which will include blood test and chest x-ray. Both parties have to do the medical."

You take the completed form back with you to book your marriage appointment and give them all the rest of your paperwork."

@Joe Arm

Seriously, are you asking people on social media???  Go to the proper source with your question, just like you would any other country - it does not matter if you are Muslim marrying a Tunisian!  You are considered a FOREIGNER! If she is Tunisian-born and not there as an illegal, she knows the steps and is just playing dumb - you are not the first she baited into marrying her!    Use your brain and think twice about what you are doing and if you have assets - do not fall for that game - I will not sign - you do not love me if you force me - I will leave you etc - if that's the case - there lays your answer why she is looking to marry you - surely your friends have warned you as well - but you want to be negligent - there are many nice people in Tunisia. Still, there are many looking for opportunities to get out! Don't let the love bombing fool you, and getting her pregnant for her to seal the deal!  From your question - it does not sound as though you are mature enough to even marry you, or she cannot think of calling on the embassy - nope - let's Reddit be the legitimate source !!
