Life Partner Visa

emegee

Hi all,

I am an Australian citizen, and I am currently in Durban on a 90 day visitors permit.

My boyfriend is South African, and I am looking into ways that I can stay in SA with him.

The Life Partner Permit looks like the best way to go, but I am struggling to find much concrete information about it online.

I've been with my boyfriend for over 18 months, and we lived together and had a joint bank account in the UK, where we met, so I don't think we will have much trouble proving our relationship.

My boyfriend is still in the UK, but will be joining me here in a couple of months. I'm staying with his parents at the moment. Can I start the application process without him? Or does he need to be here as well?

Also could I get some advise on whether hiring an agent for the application is worthwhile, or if it is easy enough to navigate the SA Home Office by ourselves.

Thanks in advance for any help :-)

Meg
