Hello everyone,

When settling in and living in Morocco, you will also need to navigate the local tax system. In order to help newcomers and expats ease their tax-related experience, we would like to invite you to share your experience.

What are the taxes applicable to expats in Morocco?

Have there been any recent changes in tax regulations that expats should know about?

Are there any local tax incentives or agreements with your home country?

Have you come across any unexpected or unusual local tax?

What do you wish you had known earlier about taxes in Morocco?

Share your insights and experience.

Thank you for your contribution.

Hello everyone,

As someone who has been working closely in the Moroccan real estate and hospitality sector, I’ve had the chance to learn a lot about how taxes work here — especially when it comes to property rentals and daily operations.

For expats, the key things to be aware of are:

✅ Income Tax (IGR): If you earn income in Morocco (including from property rentals), it’s subject to tax. Morocco has double taxation agreements with many countries, so it’s worth checking if you can avoid being taxed twice.

✅ Property Tax: If you own property, annual property taxes may apply, depending on the use and location.

✅ Tourism Tax: If you rent out property to tourists, especially short-term, this may apply depending on registration and municipality.

✅ Recent Changes: As of 2023, there’s been a push for more digital reporting and transparency, especially in the real estate sector.

✅ What I wish I had known: It's very helpful to work with a **local tax consultant**, even just for an initial meeting — it can save you money and avoid unnecessary stress.

Happy to answer any specific questions if you're planning to invest or live in Marrakech!

Warm regards,

Zouhir
