Burglary incidence depends on where you live, the area and surroundings. Like in all countries, Mauritius also has 'good' and 'less good' neighbourhoods.

Bars on windows are a remnant of the pre-Independence days when there were social unrest in the country. Those days are long gone but the bars lived on.

Safes are available in all department stores. You can find them at jKalachand.

We never had bars on our windows until we were robbed a couple of years ago. Now we do and I hate them.

A lot of new builds feature bars.

The robbers actually ripped our safe off the wall, so some good that was!

We bought our first and second safes from Espace.

Where is this shop for me to get the safe if needed? Will someone help drill this safe onto the ground? securely fixed? Cheers

Espace is at Forbach just off the M2 motorway as you head north towards Grand Baie on the right hand side of the road.

You can also get safes at Mr Bricolage at La Croisette in Grand Baie.

We had someone drill ours both times, the second time a Grand Baie locksmith. I can't recall the name of the shop now but it was on the main coastal road.
