Re-importing a Stuffed Crocodile to Mauritius

Moamed79

Hello everyone,

I’m hoping someone from the community especially Mauritians or long-term residents might be able to help me with a rather unusual situation.

I currently live in the UK, but I’m originally connected to Mauritius through my wife and family.

Back in 2015, I purchased a stuffed crocodile (taxidermy) from La Vanille Nature Park during a visit to the island.

The item has been with me in the UK ever since, and I’m now looking to bring it back to Mauritius since i am relocating in 12 months time.

I’ve already started the process with UK authorities to obtain:

A CITES Export Permit

An Export Health Certificate

I understand I’ll also need an import permit from Mauritian authorities, and I’ve contacted the Division of Veterinary Services and NPCS.

However, I’d really appreciate any local insight or experience from someone who has dealt with importing animal trophies or taxidermy items into Mauritius.

If anyone knows:

Which department is best to speak to?

What kind of documentation or inspections are required?

Any tips to make the process smoother?

Please feel free to reply here or message me directly. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance
