1 Year Car Use- Better to Buy and Resell or Rent?

Folks, we hope to be spending a year in Mauritius starting Jan 2024. We certainly need a car. The simple question is, will it be more economical to buy a car and re-sell to the dealer after a years use ( assume no accidents etc) or rent a car聽 on a year-rate? We are looking at a Compact car like Honda/Jazz Fit and the like.

Hi,

Go for a fit, it is a very popular car in the region. The car will depreciate around 100-150k depending the state of the car which will be more than you will have to pay for renting out of the car.

indeed the Honda Fit / Jazz seems third in popularity only to the Toyota Vitz / Yaris and Nissan March / Micra, and is ideally suited to the narrow and congested streets of Mauritian towns:
