Credit score/ Credit History

Meesha88

Hello everyone

I would just like to find out who the credit scoring system works in Mauritius.

If you relocate to Mauritius and become dual citizen, how does the credit score system work? Will Mauritius look at my credit history from my previous country or would i need to build up a new credit history in Mauritius?

TIA

Good morning,

as far as a now ( and i have done some research) your credit score depends on what kind of data some companies in Mauritius have about you and your credit history:

These companies report about your credit history. I was researching this topic because a plan to buy and built in Mauritius and was hoping a positiv score in my home country in Europe would help but they dont had any data about me.

Hi Vanessa

Thanks for the information, so as a new immigrant, you'd have to start from scratch and build a credit profile in Mauritius.

That's a bit of a downfall especially if you have a good credit history in your home country.

Yes I know :/  Just opened a bank account with ABSA (Premier Account) last week and will have an appointment the following for home loan possibilities/eligibility.

Can keep you updated if you're interested in the experiences?

And don't know if you already know:

Just saw on your profile that you're born outside. Me too and I had to provide many documents (at the PMO) before a was able to apply for my National Identity Card even if I only have the citizenship of Mauritius and already a passport since my birth.

If there are any documents you can only produce in your country of birth I would all organize them while there. I even had to go to the consulate from Austria in Mauritius to let them sign that the official translated document is correct translated. 1f611.svg

..... because I can remember reading here that it is no problem to apply for NIC if having already a passport from Mauritius. But it is a problem

You had the citizenship before the age of 18 because your parents has declared your birth to the authorities and were given the citizenship by descent under section 20(3) and 23 of the Constitution if either of your parents is a citizen of Mauritius by birth. Thus you were given a passport so that you can travel ( should you wish to do so) and not as a proof of your citizenship . When one reaches 18 y.o, that's when you have to prove your citizenship and get the NIC card to get access to various services even buying property on the island.

It is like that in most countries

Hey @Vanessa2909

So my mom didn't option for a Mauritian passport when I was born.

But I contacted the Mauritian embassy in South Africa  and was told that I need to bring all my mom's details and papers. (Mauritius birth certificate, NIC card, South African residency permit, marriage certificate and then my full Birth certificate and ID card) she also sent me the passport application form with the requirements listed on it.

So I'll just be applying for my passport for now.

Would I need a police clearance certificate to apply for my NIC card?

I'm not sure what documents I would need to apply for my MNIC?

Meesha88

@Vanessa2909 yes please, I currently bank with ABSA in South Africa but was told that I would need to open an account with Absa in Mauritius because they not linked.

So let me know what documents I would need, please.

I'll be coming down the 20th of June.

i spend my whole live in vienna, Austria and nobody was asking for a police clearance certificate for my passport or NIC. I guess that doesn’t count if you’re eligible because of your parent(s) because than you are a citizen not matter what you’ve done because you’re parents are.

that’s what mean. When applying for a passport they check if you’re eligible to be a citizen anyway.  that’s why I think it's an impertinence that as soon as you want to have a NIC here, because you are a citizen, you have to bring everything again. They check it when applying for a passport. And again if you’re born abroad and applying for your NIC.
