@ianleroux Welcome, I have the same plan. I will be checking out the island upcoming May to see if I actually will be able to retire there as my pension money will not be that big.

oshudofsky

@MathildeFRun I am also thinking about Albion actually. Because me too love a bit more rural area but still close to the lively areas 1f600.svg

-@anne8639

@anne8639, your husband and you appear to be well travelled and have interests in multiple continents. I am wondering how you manage to stay retired in Mauritius while keeping an eye on family and other overseas activities. I also have family all over the world and I am struggling to know where to retire... Would love to learn how you make the decision to retire in Mauritius.... For instance, although I love Mauritius (and am Mauritian), I have not been able to convince my wife that our family would visit us in Grand Baie or Pereybere for vacation or even a visit.... If you have a top 10 list of reasons for expats (or returnees) to retire in Mauritius, I am sure that expats would love to hear from someone who has done extensive research and has practical experience on the retirement topic.... I also understand that this may be a very personal issue and may not be suitable to post on a forum blog. In this case, I would love to see you at one of the expat.com event to get your take on the retirement topic. This year, I will be in Mauritius in the June timeframe.... Thank you for sharing.

We have been assisting many South Africans to move to Mauritius and settle here, assisting with buying of property, setting up of companies and managing their global portfolios from the island.
-@sandleford

@sandleford, is your business only targeting South Africans?  I am looking for a similar type of service but am currently based in the USA.  If applicable, I would like to learn more.  Thank you.

LAWRINA69

@sandleford Hello Magnus, read your books many years ago, which got me onto a good start with money management. Myself, and Life Partner, Verina, are wanting to relocate from South Africa, by the end of the year hopefully. We have been to Mauritius numerous occasions over the last few years, and in December '22 and January '23, we explored every direction, driving over 2 200 km's. Just love the country, the people, and the lifestyle. Not sure if we will be able to work though? We own our own Boutique Real Estate Agency BETTER Midstream HOMES (PTY) LTD, focusing predominantly on MIDSTREAM, an Upmarket Security Estate in Centurion, Pretoria. We sell ERVEN, APARTMENTS & FLATS, CLUSTERS & TOWNHOUSES, BUILDING PACKAGES, and HOUSES Ranging from 200 m² - 1200 m². We are now wanting to slow-down & semi-retire in Mauritius...

Hi there! My Aussie partner and I (Scottish), have recently arrived in Mauritius. My partner is setting up a renewable energy company specializing in Solar Thermal and Solar PV. I am a dental nurse with over 10yrs experience working in both Australia and UK. I would be interested as working as a dental nurse here on the island as well. Although, I only speak English! We are looking for like-minded people to connect with and are also looking for business connections on the island (or surrounding areas). We are in our 30s but are open to meeting any age and from any walk of life. Please reach out if you fancy a coffee and a chat :) Thanks

Hi,

My name's John (based in Ireland). I'm heading over to Mauritius (Perebere) at the end of Jan (2024) for two months with a view to starting the process of moving over. I do, however, have a bit of a conundrum: I'm 58 (so I believe I can retire; seems bizarre as I feel like a 20yr-old 1f601.svg) but I also run an online service-based business (small but global) and I'm not sure which way to proceed (retire/nomad/business. etc). I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance...

doughorrigan

Hi, my wife and I spent 6 weeks in Mauritius earlier this year, staying in Flic-en-Flac, and really loved the island.

We are now planniing on spending 3 or 4 months there next winter from early January to the end of March but may come out in December depending on family commitments.

Would anyone know of any furnished apartments to rent, preferably with 2 bedrooms if possible, parking (not essential but we like to rent now and then) and wifi; or can you recommend any good rental agents?

We're looking at paying up to about £1000 per month.

We know the Flic-en-Flac area quite well but would also like Tamarin, Grand Baie etc. Somewhere withing a mile or so of the coast, not inland.

Thanks in advance,

Doug

@anne8639

Hi Anne,

Glad to meet (at least on-line) a writer! In which genre are you?

From Australia, I still remember reading feverishly the book "The Thorn Birds"!

I am also trying to publish my first book and looking for a literary agent. My genre is non-fiction and in the category of popular science! I would be grateful to have some contacts.

Thanks, and Best Regards,

Kailash.

LOVM

Hi All

My name is Reg & my wife Sharon. We are both retired.

We are looking

  • the probability of Senior Retiring in Mauritius
  • to connect with Churches in Mauritius

I have been in Supply Chain for many years and want to explore the possibility of reaching those individuals who may need insights to help them further their future in this field. The other probability is to engage with business who may need training for their staff in this field e.g. Inventory, Warehousing, Purchasing, Transportation

We run a Non Profit Organisation called Lily Of The Valley Ministry (LOVM)

We will be coming to Mauritius 22 July for 6 weeks.

Thanks

Reg

Guest140423

Hi everyone,

I am Marie and Mauritian. I was in France for some four years and am back to my beautiful island since this January. I am in the life coaching field and live in Rose Hill.

I know how it is hard for a newcomer to find his/her way in a foreign country and how simple things seem monstrous to do when you don't know where to begin or where to go. That's why am here ...to help if I can.

And at the same time, in some ways, I am also a newcomer because these last four years Mauritius has changed so much. I do not recognise many things and sometimes I am also lost 1f605.svg But am home and it is easier for me to find my way as long as the sun shines on me 1f60e.svg

Love and Light

Hello, Pablo here. Frequent visitor to the island and considering returning for good - in a decade or more. Will be on the island next month staying in Balaclava, Calodyne, and Trou D'Eau Douce. Would love to meet like minded people interested in travel, sharing new experiences, and exchanging "work hard / play hard" stories. Not looking for anything weird - just like a "book club" but focused on the good things about traveling all around the world - around my favorite drink - irish coffee. Some of my to-do list: Ed Sheeran concert in Dublin, 2 months in Antartica, visit the Toronto Studio where "The Expanse" series is being filmed, etc.... Too many things to do and so little time....
