Netflix filter IP addresses.  If you're not connecting using a US IP address chances are you won't get service.  The same goes for other TV services like Hulu.  I believe the BBC also still filters.

You can work around it by connecting through a third party proxy based in the US - but it'll cost $100 or more per year.

Thanks, I hadn't seen that one before.  It looks good at $100 a year, plus they claim to support data rates high enough for Hulu.

If you have a tech savvy friend in the states, you could convince him to run one of the free GNU/open source proxy servers and connect through his machine.  Your friend should be sound asleep when you'll be streaming movies so the bandwidth shouldn't suffer.

I'm thinking about setting up my home pc as such to be able to access iTunes store when I start working in Tripoli in March.

Which got me thinking...I could probably take a Tivo over there and do the same thing...

The main problem with setting up your own is that  a lot of ISPs really throttle upload speeds.  You'd be ok for netflix since it caches on your computer, but hulu streams don't cache well on the receiving end.  I use a slingbox to get my tv fix.

Not with a Libya IP address

I can access the US store on my iphone with a Libyan IP address.
I'll have to check with my laptop.  I wouldn't be surprised if there are restrictions.
