Make sure you get a reputable shipping company as some of the cars that come out of the port are a wreck e.g. roof caved in, window screen smashed etc. If you do have any damage, contact your shipping company and hold out for them to make the repairs.Â
If you are not in the Gambia and return just to collect a vehicle, there may be some discrepancy between when they say it will be delivered and when it actually is. I have known of people coming in on the date it is suppose to be arriving and having to return to the UK 2 weeks later and the car has still not arrived. So make sure you have things put in place if you cannot be there or if there is a delay.
There are a lot more cars being sold now in the Gambia, so you can purchase a good car, 4X4 , van or even a lorry there.  Â
Remember The Gambia left hand drive cars only. If you do bring in a right hand drive vehicle make sure the person who converts it has done this before and is an expert.Â
Driving in the Gambia can be a very different experience. Some vehicles speed and there seems to be very little road awareness and very little vehicle and pedestrian safety. Be extra vigilant when driving and crossing roads especially at night when some vehicles even fail to have lights. The Yellow Taxis can be especially challenging, as their numbers have increased and are usually driven by young inexperience drivers.
