I am Yusuf, an egyptian turk born and raised in cairo.
"Interesting" is the only thing that is in abundance in egypt, whether it's a "good" interesting, or a "bad" interesting. (lol).
My first advice to you, is that maadi is a very much self sufficient neighborhood. You can find everything there.
My second advice is to carefully study your routes and areas of interest before going there. Try to get to know communities where you can fit in. It's really important for you to get around.
