Cost of living verification

trvlingrl

Hi Everyone, I have been reading your posts and they have proven most helpful. I will hopefully be joining you this summer. I found this website: which gives an estimate of the cost of living in Cairo. I was wondering if someone could verify if the prices seem reasonably accurate? Thank you!

The prices are made in the "market", I mean they are negociated mainly if you use to go shopping where you could negociate!
In the shops and supermarkets they are around the same how they are in that website, less the food oil, could not be 40 LE at all for 1 liter.
But there are things really expensive that could be bought in any part of the world very cheap, and things really cheap that could be bought in another country for a higher price.
Egypt is a confortable land where you could manage well your living and your money!

And the more money you have the more you ll spend!

trvlingrl, the next time you post a link I would be careful coz when I clicked on the link i got your profile details and everything else, about the prices Yes some of them are right some of them not but mainly I only can agree with "valibilic". "The more you have the more you spend"

Finally what  s important to know is , in my opinion, AREAS WHERE YOU COULD FIND GOOD THINGS WHERE YOU COULD BUY CHEAPER!
For example, the prices for vegetables and fruits are in El Haram half than in Maadi where I live! In Zamalek prices are high also!
But you have to speak Arabic also, little, if they find you that you are foreigner, they ask you a higher price!

nicely put!

Most of the prices seem about right, although I think you will have to search hard to find acommodation at that price. In El Rehab City for example 2 beds go for about $800-1000 and in Maadi about the same. I would also disagree with clothes prices. Clothes and shoes, in particular, are the one thing I find very expensive here, although there is an H&M in City Stars, which is quite cheap. I would advise you to bring all that you'll need. Leather items like jackets and handbags can be found cheaply and are of good quality. You can even have them made to your own design!

Thx alot ! that was beyond helpful!

hii i'd like to say something as an egyptien ..may be we suffeer here in egypt from the lake of a system to protect consumers such as USA or any country so that's way we find that prices differ from place to another however the same commodity, may be we need to enlarge the awareness about protecting consumers' right,
