Have you been scammed by an Egyptian?

Sousou88

But I'm asking about people's experience with real scammers.

This topic wasn't meant as an insult to egyptian men and I apologize if someone misunderstood what I was asking about. I wasn't trying to make egyptian men look bad or trying to discriminate them. I was only asking, because according to web sources this is a problem.

If anyone got me wrong, I'm sorry guys.

Hi,

Most of the 'scams' consist in you paying a high price for things that are instead quiet cheap. Could be a taxi fare or something you buy in the bazar. You have to be careful if you are purchasing jewelley, stones, etc. Investigate the price before buying.

Many scams are done by those close to you, somebody who pretends to be a friend, and sometime with the help of a foreigner. What I mean is people stealing your mobile phone and credit card.

Scams are also done by men who intend to marry women for their nationality, money, or green card. Sometime the so called 'friends' might fake an accident, or pretend they have some life emergencies asking you for money.

This does not happened only in Egypt, by the way, it is common in any country with high poverty levels, where foreigner are often seen as a way to make quick money.

This is of course representative of a small chunk of the population. Usually Egyptian people are very welcoming and friendly.Just select your friends carefully.

can't agree more :)
it doesn't happen only for foreigners it's also for Egyptians who was living in outside Egypt
i lived in Saudi Arabia 14 years and when i came back to Egypt with my family
i can't tell you how many times i been scammed just because i had a little accent from Saudi Arabia in my Egyptian Arabic :)
so when someone hear it the price goes high :D
and i get tons of fake friends who just know you to take advantage of you financially :)
it takes me 5 years to almost get rid of that accent and talking like the Egyptians :D

the only way to protect yourself is by knowing the real prices
you can also buy from Supermarkets (like Metro supermarket) or hyperMarkets (like Spinneys)  :)

about the Egyptian men who trick the foreigners weomen
yea i hear this alot of desperate young men trick foreigners
women so they can marry them to get their nationality
i heard alot of stories about 40's foreigners lady get married to 20's Egyptian men which is really horrible :)

but this doesn't present all Egyptian men for sure
in everywhere in the world you can find men who trick a women to get something from it (money, sex, name of the family, work with her dad,....)

focus on the positive side but also take care of the negative side :)
