Thinking of settle down in Africa. Can you help me decide where?

moe szyslak

I may have an opportunity to retire soon. I have always been thinking of moving to SE-asia. Lately I have been thinking more and more about Africa. My main concern is that I haven't got a clue about the different countries in this vast continent. Also, I don't have anyone to ask questions about Africa, because to my knowledge, no one I know has ever been there.

I live alone and I prefer a simple lifestyle. All I'm asking is this:

1. Close to water.
2. Many people speak english
3. Nice people
4. Safety
5. Good coffee :-)
6. OOPS, I forgot about VISA: a country where you could stay permanently without taking a VISA-run.
7. Cost of living for a simple person: Maximum $7-800/month.

As long as I don't have to share my home with bugs I'm fine :-)
I don't need anything fancy. A one-bedroom apartment will do.

I won't be going to restaurants. If the local people can eat it, it's OK with me.

Do you have any suggestions where to settle down?  I'm all ears :-)

Hi.

I think you must define what it is you want a little more closely, do you want to be in a mostly Christian, muslim country? What kind of climate are you looking for, hot vs. mild, dry vs humit, ect. Also what facilities do you expect, shopping malls, first class internet, first class road infrastructure, medical; facilities ect. Also how do you feel about corruption, a lot of places in Africa are very corupt.

I would say that you can live well of $7-800 per month in most contries in Africa, even in expensive Cape Town.

In regards to the Visa, I know South Africa has a special visa for retired persons, but no matter where you go you will need a visa.

I hope I was at somehelp and not just made you more confused.
:-)
I wish you luck with your future, where ever you end up.

Regards Sarah

Is exactly one year I moved in MAHDIA.m
I Live in front of the sea, the flat is totally affordable and all the expenses too.
Here a lot of educated people  speak English, and others French.

Visa is not a problem, police required at least 500 euro per month in you bank account n tunisia.
The bank account could be in a foreign currency as USD, euro, AUD...

So many Germans, French, Italians and Spanish live here.
