Cost of living in Bulgaria by expat.com
Hi everybody, It would be very interesting to start a topic about the cost of living in Bulgaria. It would help a lot those who would like to move to Bulgaria. Don't forget to mention where you are living Let's compare the: > accommodation ...

Real winters? Oh yes we get them, some worse than others. And no winter in the last 5 years has been the same. Some years snowed in, others wearing shorts in January. Bulgaria is a beautiful country but there are no real standards here - everything ... Read More

almost bought a house :) but no net by biff
I came over to buy a house somewhere in Bg. Found my area and possibly the house. Slight problem that due to its mountain position it may not be possible to have internet. It has a sat dish. Anyone have good coverage in the mountains with satellite ...

don't forget fuel either - and ferry charges. Driving to BG is not a cheap option these days. As for the hunting - to get a gun license is complex and you would (I'm told) have to join a hunting club and take a test (in Bulgarian) to possibly get ... Read More

Living the Dream by worldlywanderer
After a dozen years of searching over four continents we seem, at last, to have identified a place to live. It's not as if we knew nothing about it nor had we missed it on our travels, we've even looked at property there. Now we know, In the same ...

Fantastic introduction - welcome Worldlywanderer. You are correct - the internet can be debatable in some places and dongles, well I won't go there. But the good news is things are improving and even some rural areas have broadband. I can't ... Read More

Hi in the Next few months we are hoping to relocate to our new home near VT, can anyone recommend a good builder and window fitter, also has the airport opened for commercial use yet ? Thanks

I'd say bring your car, especially if it is something that will not let you down. In my opinion second hand cars can be expensive here, many have high mileage and faults. Plus the Bulgarian roads are not exactly kind on any car. Registering here ... Read More

Living off the land and being totally self sufficient I think is not possible. You still would have to find the money for taxes, things you can't grow, firewood etc. Solar/wind energy is not cheap to install but the climate here is great for ... Read More

Don't take the chance with any animals, Bulgaria is part of the pet passport scheme and if your paperwork is correct there won't be any problems. I could write huge amounts about builders, but by far the best thing to do is come over and ask to see ... Read More

There are venomous snakes in Bulgaria, but like any other animal if you leave them alone they are fine. British TV can be watched via the internet, although both Bulsat and Vivacom do have some channels broadcast in English still. Your E111 card ... Read More

I have to agree with Draken, work is not easy to find especially if you don't speak the language and wages are very low here in Bulgaria. We have been here over 5 years and don't regret making the move but we do work hard. Mix with the locals, get ... Read More
