Arrival at Saigon airport

drybones
I came from London to Saigon on 4 May via Singapore airlines. At passport control in HCM airport only my passport was looked at. Nothing about PCR tests, health declarations or insurance. However in London it was a different story. The airline did a pre check in request for a negative covid PCR result. At the actual check in I had to show my PCR test certificate again then my vaccination status and health declaration document. Nothing about insurance was required. I hope this information is useful.

Thanks for sharing your firsthand experience.

Yeah, based on the face.book chatter recently, SGN airport has stopped almost all checks except normal visa and passport (and customs declaration) checks.

In effect, the Vietnamese authorities seem to have abdicated all responsibility for COVID test results to the airlines.

As always, some airlines will interpret rules differently.

This includes some airlines requiring onward travel proof out of Vietnam after the expiration of the entry visa.

So as always (even before COVID) it's best to check ahead with the chosen airline, because even if they are "wrong", you'll never get on their plane without meeting THEIR requirements.

Thank you for this helpful information as I will be flying into Saigon on 10th June. However we still must follow all the regulations as they  won't let us board a plane to Vietnam unless we comply with them.

May I ask how you dealt with the insurance situation? My normal travel insurance says they will cover me but I understand that Vietnam requires a specific policy stating that I have cover up to $10,000 for covid.

Have your insurance company put it in writing that they will cover you in Vietnam.

I contacted my travel insurance company and they confirmed I was covered for £5,000,000 medical expenses and that included cover for any covid related claims. However I am sure other insurance companies will be different from mine so it would be better to check with them as to what cover they will provide.

Getting an insurance company to write a simple statement like that in plain English is not easy.

Thank you, my insurance should cover me, but I am concerned that the vietnamese authorities will want a simple statement rather than three paragraphs of  quasi legal language.

Came into Hanoi yesterday .. Had all the documents ready .they were only interested in visa and passport . didn't look at anything else . Although Singapore wanted to see everything.

Ditto here, came into HaNoi 3 weeks ago. No one asked for proof of insurance. I was only asked for my visa exemption and the health declaration which was required at that time

Flying out of Saigon Airport to Phnom Penh I was asked for "Vaccine document" at check-in. Then once I arrived in Phnom Penh I was asked for "Vaccination" at immigration. Both times I showed them my evidence for 3 shots and I was allowed to pass.

No PCR result requested, only vaccine shots. This was Friday, 6th May.

Good day all,

Did some authorities ask you for a return ticket out of VietNam?
- @sailorbg
Vietnamese authorities don't ask for that, HOWEVER, your airline might insist on it, so it's always wise to ask your airline (including any connecting airlines) about that
